Independence Community College, USD 446 Independence and the City of Independence have renewed their partnership for the use of Shulthis Stadium, continuing a longstanding collaboration that brings Pirate football and community events to one of Independence’s most recognizable athletic facilities.
The renewed agreement allows ICC to continue using Shulthis Stadium as the home of Pirate football, including regularly scheduled home games, postseason contests and select preseason and spring scrimmages. The agreement also provides opportunities for ICC to host up to three youth football clinics at the stadium each year.
“This partnership is about much more than having a place to play football,” said James P. Arnold, President of Independence Community College. “Shulthis Stadium is a place where our college, our schools and our community come together. We are grateful to USD 446 and the City of Independence for continuing this collaboration and look forward to building on a partnership that creates opportunities for our student-athletes, local youth and the entire Independence community.”
The renewed agreement comes as Shulthis Stadium enters an exciting new chapter with improvements to the facility, including new turf. The investment enhances the experience for student-athletes and community members while helping ensure the stadium remains a valuable resource for years to come.
“Shulthis Stadium has a long history of bringing people together, and we are excited to continue our partnership with Independence Community College,” said Jason McAfee, USD 446 Superintendent. “This agreement is a great example of two local educational institutions working together to maximize our community resources and provide positive experiences for students, athletes and families throughout Independence.”
Pirate football will return to Shulthis Stadium for its first home game of the 2026 season on Saturday, September 12, at 5 p.m., when ICC takes on the Coffeyville Red Ravens.
The season opener will also kick off ICC’s community admission initiative. Montgomery County residents can attend the game free of charge. Residents who present proof of Montgomery County residency at the ticket gate will also receive a complimentary season voucher for free admission to remaining ICC home athletic events during the 2026-27 season, excluding conference and national tournament contests.
The renewed partnership reflects the continued commitment of Independence Community College, USD 446 and the City of Independence to collaboration, community engagement and creating opportunities that benefit students and residents throughout the region.
